Tyre Conversion Chart

Tyre Size Calculator Conversion Table

To use this table simply select the tyre size you have originally fitted on your vehicle, then follow along the same row to find suitable sizes, this will keep within the same rolling circumference and will not affect your speedo or gearing.

However you can move up or down one line, example if your original tyre fitted is a 2254517 you may decrease it to 1757015 or Increase it to 2953018 without upsetting the gearing or speedo too much.

Be aware that if the rim diameter changes, ie. from 15" to 16" then obviously new wheels and tyres will be required for the tyre conversion. If the rim diameter remains the same, check on the width of the wheel dimensions in the Rim J data table below, this will give you the minimum and the maximum width tyres that can be fitted to you original wheels.
Picture: 6Jx16 Measurements below

To find out the Rim J width of your wheels you will need to remove a wheel and look on the inside, you may need to clean it a little to see the markings. It may be worth looking at your spare wheel and tyre first as if they are of the same size this will be easier to see on the inside. Also, check that the new tyre has the same load index and speed rating or it is higher than the originally fitted tyre. For more info on this click here.

R.C. = rolling circumference approx. Figures in mm.

If you are contemplating changing wheel or/and tyre sizes, it is required to maintain a diameter (rolling circumference) that is as close as possible to the original. This is so the gearing of the vehicle is not adversely affected. If you can do this it will also ensure that the ride height will not change significantly and that your speedo will remain accurate.

However if you would like to increase your gearing, because of a low geared vehicle and to increase your fuel economy, you can increase the profile of your tyres. Just ensure that you have enough room for your new tyres in the wheel arches.

Your speedo will not remain accurate and you can get them recalibrated or be aware that you may be driving at a higher speed.

Just because the chart displays your tyre size and recommends a suitable tyre, this size does not automatically mean that it will fit.

You will need to check...

  • That it does not catch on the outer wheel arch with the suspension fully down.
  • That it does not catch on the inner wheel arch when you turn the steering from full lock each way.
